Week 8 Fantasy Football WR Sleepers – This Land is Courtland

Denver Broncos John Elway
Week 8 Fantasy Football WR Sleepers

It’s finally week eight, which means that the fantasy football season is already half over. This isn’t true if you play in a league with a week seventeen championship, but if you play in a league with a week seventeen championship, find a new league. Each week, we try to help you out with WR sleepers to help get you through injuries, bad performance, bye weeks, or good ol’ fashioned streaming. These WR sleepers are available in at least 50% of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues, with one of the week 8 WR sleepers available in at least 90% of these leagues. Ownership figures are as of Friday afternoon.

If one of these guys can’t help you, then maybe you already lost. Might I suggest Zay Jones as a WR sleeper, in that case? It’ll be funny, at least.

Chris Godwin at Cincinnati (50% owned)

At this point, spreading the word of Godwin and having people not listen makes me empathize with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He has at least 8.4 fantasy points in half-PPR in six-of-seven contests, and over 11.6 fantasy points in five of those. He’s produced with FitzMagic, he’s produced with Jameis. His only bad game was the Chicago Bears clusterBuc in week four. He’s good and he gets a lot of opportunities. And he produces! The Bengals represent a middling matchup, so this one is not a slam dunk, but a great desperation play among week 8 WR sleepers. This game should be a shootout.

Christian Kirk versus San Francisco (28% owned)

Maybe I have PTSD from the last time the 49ers played the Cardinals, and Kirk ran wide-freaking-open for a 70 yard touchdown with nobody within a zip code of him. Maybe it’s because I’m digging the religious starship Enterprise angle. More likely, it’s because Christian Kirk is good and the 49ers defense is not. They let everyone run free against them, especially when Richard Sherman is hurt and/or on the other side of the field. They’ve allowed ten double-digit fantasy days in half-PPR, including one to a little guy named Christian Kirk just a few weeks ago.

Courtland Sutton at Kansas City (9% owned)

I’m not going to walk around on tiptoes about this one. Sutton is a hail mary play of week 8 WR sleepers, but he has the trifecta of breakout on his side. He’s talented, he has a struggling vet (that will likely draw defensive coverage) in front of him, and his team is facing a shootout. Sutton has seen fairly consistent fantasy production over the last month or so, getting between 6.6 and 9.3 fantasy points each of the last four weeks. However, he hasn’t had that big pop off game to put him on the map. The Chiefs are a neutral play overall, but Broncos-Chiefs will prove to be a shootout (third highest Vegas over-under this week). There are definitely worse WR sleepers out there than Sutton, and he’s worth a snag just in case Demaryius Thomas gets shipped out of town next week.
