David Johnson Player Profile

If you are interested in only the best in your running backs, then this fantasy football David Johnson player profile should be just what you need. As we gear up to the start of the NFL season, Football Absurdity is going to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of every notable player that will be available in fantasy football drafts.  When you don’t see us talking about Christine Michael or Mike Davis, don’t get mad at us for neglecting your favorite sleeper.  Get mad at yourself for having bad taste in football players.  We are only focusing on the top-rated running backs in standard scoring and points per game leagues.

With my player profiles, I’ve only decided to go back to look at their fantasy scoring for three years.  I could show you lists from earlier, but most of the guys at the top are no longer in the league anymore.  I’ve also added a chart for their usage over that time span.  We will try to determine, based on those two factors, where the best running back value lies.

Overview:  It is amazing how quickly people forgot about David Johnson after one season.  Well, not really.  I was really hoping people would be so distracted by Ezekiel Elliott, Le’Veon Bell and Todd Gurley that they would forget that David Johnson is just as talented a running back as they are.  Unfortunately, David Johnson is clearly a consensus top-five player in all formats.  He is currently my number one pick.  I just don’t see any difference between last season and this season.  His injury was to his wrist and shouldn’t impact his play on the field.  The only difference is Todd Gurley, like a spurned ex-girlfriend, spent the 2017 NFL season making himself the new hotness.  The reason I have Johnson ranked number one over the rest is I don’t see any real competition for touches on his roster, whereas the same can’t be said for  Gurley and Bell.  As for Zeke, I worry he will do something stupid and get himself suspended again.  Please note that my differentiating between these four running backs in nit-picking of the highest order.  I’d love to have any and all of them on my team.  I just love David Johnson slightly more.

Strategy:  My strategy is simple.  If you are in a position to draft David Johnson, you draft David Johnson.

Ceiling:  David Johnson’s ceiling is what it was in 2016.  The best player in fantasy football in all formats.

Floor:  David Johnson’s ceiling is what it was in 2017.  The most crushing disappointment in fantasy football in all formats.
